Stolen Magic Kat Incorrigible Stephanie Burgis 9781416994510 Books

As nice as the previous books in this series were, I liked this one best. Kat is finally maturing, somewhat, and realizing that acting like a wild animal shouldn't be her first instinctive response, no matter how compelling it may feel.

Still, this book follows the pattern of the last two - one of Kat's sisters has romantic issues, while some nefarious magical plot takes place around them.

The setting always gets to me - Victorian (or whatever period) English proper society, with secret magic going on in the background. It was a good enjoyable read.

Stolen Magic Kat Incorrigible Stephanie Burgis 9781416994510 Books Reviews

STOLEN MAGIC was a very satisfying conclusion to a very entertaining trilogy. This middle grade historical fantasy has it all--excitement, danger, exquisite manners, and a young heroine easy to fall in love with.

Miss Katherine Stevenson is the youngest of four children. In this episode, Kat is traveling with her father, stepmama, older brother and older sister to her sister's fiance's home for her wedding. Her fiance's mother is one of the most unpleasant characters in the story. Mrs. Carlyle is determined that her son Frederick is marrying beneath him and that Kat's sister Angeline is the worst possible daughter-in-law. She uses emotional blackmail on her son and is constantly looking for ways to discredit Angeline. She is also continually throwing her own candidate for bride at Frederick--Frederick's cousin Jane.

Kat also has to deal with some missing objects that were stolen from the Guardians, her own personal nemesis Lady Fotherington, and a mysterious character who is stalking her and who is blaming her for events that happened in book 2 of this series. Worst of all for Kat is that her usually negligent older brother Charles has turned over a new leaf and is determined to keep a careful watch on Kat. He is a bit side-tracked however by his sudden infatuation for Jane though.

I loved the dialog in this story. Kat is a very engaging character who is full of determination and who is really chafing under the handicaps of her age and the social requirements of her position in society. She is intrepid, adventurous, and ever-willing to rush headlong into dangerous situations.

I thought that the world building was well-done and the magic introduced in a realistic way. This book trilogy was similar to MJ Putney's Magic Mirror trilogy except this one is more suited to middle graders. I also saw some resemblance to Gail Carriger's Parasol Protectorate series which is written for adults. If you liked either of those series, this series will be right up your alley. I heartily recommend this series to anyone who likes spunky main characters, humor, and magic.
Kat Stephenson is back for another Regency-era comedy of manners --- and magic!

After risking her own life to uncover a treasonous plot and saving England again, Miss Katherine Ann Stephenson's plans are finally coming to fruition. Her older brother Charles has finally given up carousing, her older sister Angeline is finally going to be married to Frederick Carlyle, her oldest sister Elissa is finally going to be reunited with the family at the wedding and Kat is finally going to be inducted into the King of England's Order of the Guardians, so she can learn how to control her own powers and to ultimately fulfill the Order's duty to manage magic all over the country.

Unfortunately for Kat, her simple plans never seem to work out. With his reform, Charles now has the misguided idea that he must keep Kat safe and thinks he needs to watch her every move. Angeline's pernicious future mother-in-law is doing everything and anything to prevent her son's upcoming wedding. Elissa's arrival is delayed by an unexplained visit to a physician. But worst of all, Kat's initiation into the Order has been indefinitely delayed Kat sacrificed her mother's Guardian portal to save England, and all replacement portals have recently been stolen. Kat must work with the odious Lady Fotherington to find them before she can become a member of the Order.

Kat has a lot to manage on her own if she is going to distract Charles, make sure Angeline's wedding happens without fuss, discover what has happened to Elissa and help Lady Fotherington find the missing portals before they disappear forever. But add in a marquise with an inexplicable connection to her father and a mysterious dark figure who might be making attempts on Kat's life, and even fearless Kat Stephenson might be in over her head.

With a multilayered plot, lovable characters, and laugh-out-loud wit, STOLEN MAGIC is a delightful conclusion to the Kat, Incorrigible trilogy that will leave readers wishing for more.

I love everything about this series.
great series
I very much enjoy the stories of Kat Stephenson. Well written and engaging, you find yourself getting mad with Kat as her brother becomes a little too protective this time around. Great twists and turns.
Excitement! Intrigue! Adventure! Romance! Even more marvelous Kat silliness and brilliance! Why are you wasting time reading reviews? Buy this wonderful book NOW!
A sweet, little, giggle voice in my head! What a lovely trilogy of true escapism! Burgis separates innate magic users (guardians) from spell casters and tool users (witches) as a class war.

Note strong undercurrent of feminism. The men in the trilogy are very neutered emotionally and practically until late in book two and this book, Stolen Magic. The male protagonists and antagonists pull their heads out only somewhat in the end but do actually show up as awake eventually.
